“The best inheritance a parent can give his children is a few minutes of his time each day.” - O.A. Battista Happy Halloween! “Dad, can you snuggle with me tonight?” my daughter asked as she rolled over, threw her arm across my abdomen, and rested her head on my chest.
Randy, you know I can't resist your pieces that involve your daughter and your example of fatherhood. This one was especially warming to read though. Remembering that everything will come to an end, even those nighttime/morning snuggles makes us more present for them now. Thank you for the beautiful reminder.
I too was planning to write this weekend. Instead I raked leaves with my wife, watched a movie with my kids, worked on a 1500 piece puzzle with one of them, went on four dog walks, and two runs by myself. And only felt mildly guilty not putting pen to paper, but remained present the whole time.
I owe it to a life time littered with bad decisions and missed opportunities. I've fucked up enough stuff in my life to know that I don't want to screw up being a husband and a father. 😁
Your weekend sounds amazing. Like one of my dream weekends!
Someday over a beer we can compare poor choices and bad decisions. I’ve got a litany of them..that have served as grist for better choices and decisions over time.
That photo is definitely worth more than a thousand words.
Gah! So sweet!
Thank you, Charlie 😊
This is so lovely. Hoping you get more snuggles, Randy!
Thank you! So am I!
Beautiful post, Randy! The photo at the end is a lovely touch too.
Thank you, Alexandra!
"I don’t know when my daughter will ask me to snuggle with her for the last time, but just in case it was this morning, I wasn’t going to miss it."
Best use of your time.
Couldn’t agree more 😊

Thank you, Rik. Those simple little moments are the best. And I assume they will be the ones we will miss the most when are children are grown.
I totally agree and I suspect the same. I've only had a little over year of these and I'm already worried...
Randy, you’re the best.
“I love you, Dad.”
“I love you too, sweetheart.”
May this echo for your life.
Thank you, James 😊
Your priorities are SO correct and I admire that.

I enjoy hearing from you on Sunday nights. 🙏
Thank you!
